Petition update 2 from the council, 28 June 2011

The Mayor advised that Mr Andrew Steele, the organiser of the petition, was unable to be in attendance and that he had asked Councillor Felicity Barwood to present the petition for him. Councillor Barwood did so and explained that it had 174 signatories and wished to see a resolution to the problem of the new water supply to the allotments being inadequate.

The Mayor then invited Councillor Pritam Grewal, the Executive Member for Leisure and Well-Being, to respond. Councillor Grewal advised that officers had been liaising with the Chiswick Horticultural and Allotments Society on the matter of the water supply. Works had been
undertaken to make the supply compliant with current legislative requirements but he acknowledged there were some practical problems to be resolved. He explained that there were limited funds further to upgrade the supply but that he had asked officers to meet with
representatives of the Society to help identify a way forward.

The new water supply to the Chiswick allotment sites is not fit for purpose and we demand that the London Borough of Hounslow replaces this immediately with a system that meets the needs of their tenants and rent payers, the allotment holders.
