Petition update 2 from the council, 13 July 2011

Petition update from June Borough Council meeting.

The Mayor introduced the petition for consideration and invited Ms Romeril and Mr Edwards to speak to it.

Mr Edwards asked the Council not to introduce a controlled parking zone for Hounslow South West, Albert Road and the surrounding area. He expressed the view that the current consultation exercise on this matter was predicated on the idea that there was a parking problem in the area, whereas most residents did not think this was the case.

Whilst there might be issues of parking the commercial areas, the proposed zone was mostly residential and in an area too far away to be affected by parking problems associated with the shops. Furthermore, in the current difficult financial times, most residents were concerned that the implementation of a controlled parking zone in the area could be an additional financial burden, which was all the more unfair as there was no real problem to address.

The Mayor then invited Councillor Ed Mayne, the Cabinet Member for Community Safety and Regulatory Services, to speak to it. In doing so, he explained that the petition was in response to a preliminary Controlled Parking Zone consultation exercise in the Albert Road
area. The petition and its contents would therefore be included in the consultation outcome report to the Area Committee in July or September 2011.

The Mayor then put the matter to the vote and it was RESOLVED –That the response be agreed.

Petition update 1 from the council, 01 June 2011

This petition will be considered at Borough Council on 14th June 2011.

More details from petition creator

1. There is no perceived parking problem in the road and there is no need to alter the current arrangements.

2. The only time there is an issue is a Friday when a substantial number of people visit the mosque.

3. Your justification for a CPZ is based on local workers and shoppers casuing the problem but there are no businesses or shops present as Granville Avenue is a residential road.

4. This is another scheme to raise money for the council.
